About Me

I am a life long resident of this great community. I believe that if we as a group, can make our town even better by watching out for each other. It is also my belief that any one person can critize, but if you don't try become involved you are part of the problem, not the solution.

I would love to make not only the past a part of the community but to have this a town people can be proud of in the future.  I for one am proud of what we offer our citizens but also believe there is work to be done to make it even better.:)

About Me

Retired public works planner, live in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.  My father was born in Pitcairn area, probably at Braddock, my grandfather worked for Pennsylvania RR, I think as assistant yardmaster at Pitcairn yard in 1918.  He died young, grandmother remarried, eventually ended up in Akron, where I was born and my family has continued to live in the area.  I'm trying to trace my roots back to a Brinton family that settled near Chadd's Ford in 1684.  I'm also a train buff, have liked trains since childhood.

About Me

My Grandmother Evelyn (Edwards) Shearer was very intrested in our towns history. She tried to teach me a lot but sadly I lost her when I was only in 6th grade. I would love to learn more.

About Me

I grew up in Pitcairn.  I remember it as a beautiful, safe, friendly small town.  I have wonderful memories of Sugar Camp, Brownies and Girl Scouts, the YMCA on broadway, going to the movies on Saturdays with my brother and friends. We enjoyed the parades on holidays usually put on by the 2 volunteer Fire Companies.  We had our own generated electicity and a tiny little police station on Center Avenue.  There were many small "corner" stores where you could buy penny candies and/or bread and lunch meat.  I remember 3 drugstores, a shoe store, a mens clothing store, a women's clothing store, an ice cream shop, a tailor, a pool hall, a bowling alley.  We had it all.  I am now retired and treasure those memories of neighbors, friends, and school mates from back then.  It was a treasure.  My familty name is Martin and I have a brother, Les, and a sister, Cindy (who still lives in Pitcairn).  I look forward to digging up some pictures to submit and more memories to share.  Thanks to all who have provided and supported this society.

About Me

I am originally from Monroeville PA.  I lived at the bottom of Haymaker Road and spent a lot of time in Pitcairn.  In high school and middle school I worked at Bill Kairy's tailor shop on Broadway. That was in the the late 1950's.

About Me

I joined this site to learn more of the history of the PRR and hopefully learn more about and possibly find photos of my great-great grandfather, Patrick McGrail, a foreman of a maintenance crew for the PRR. Patrick was tragically killed on the job when he was struck by a light engine locomotive in the Pitcairn Yards November 26, 1918. The story gets even more tragic yet, but this amazing tale I'll save for now until I can uncover more....If anyone can help me find out more about Patrick McGrail, the lives and associations of PRR railroad workers or photographs of any from this era, I would love to share!
